Recommended: Paul Collins' essay 'Vanishing Act.' It deals with the strange disappearance of Barbara Rogers, better known as Barbara Newhall Follett. She published her first novel, The House Without Windows, at age 12 to wide critical acclaim. A compounding series of hard breaks eventually forced her to abandon writing and at age 26, she vanished and was never seen again.
It is a fantastic read.
