Vantongerloo’s works refer to geometry and astrophysics, the lines and vectors being those of cosmic energy. To suggest infinity while using a material ground he began to work with transparent Plexiglas; in some works, line and colored dots appear to float free, mobile in space. He fused the color of painting, the spatiality of sculpture, and the linearity of drawing, seeking a result that was none of the above: line made transparent void, devoid of contour.
